About the Project:
We are supporting a major gold mining operator in Indonesia currently in the construction phase of a large-scale open-pit gold project. First gold is targeted for end-2026. The site is ramping up both infrastructure development and workforce planning, and we are now seeking a Deputy Director of Operations to help lead the transition from project execution into operations.
Role Overview:
The Deputy Director of Operations will play a critical leadership role across construction support, operational readiness, and steady-state mining operations. This is a hands-on executive role requiring both strategic oversight and operational execution across technical, logistical, and human capital dimensions.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
- Support the Director of Operations in delivering project milestones toward first gold production by end-2026.
- Oversee the development of mining operations, including drilling, blasting, hauling, stockpiling, and ore processing readiness.
- Lead pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, coordinating across mining, processing, maintenance, and infrastructure teams.
- Ensure strict adherence to HSE and ESG standards at all project stages.
Team & Process Management
- Build and manage site-based operational teams including mine engineering, pit supervisors, maintenance, and plant operations.
- Support training and workforce localization efforts, building a high-performance culture focused on safety, productivity, and accountability.
- Ensure SOPs and operational systems are in place and integrated with central systems.
Stakeholder & Regulatory Engagement
- Interface with external consultants, contractors, and government agencies to ensure compliance and maintain permits.
- Support community relations and local stakeholder engagement, especially in coordination with ESG and CSR leads.
Financial & Strategic Planning
- Assist with annual operating and capital budgets, cost forecasting, and asset utilization.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvement, technology adoption, and cost optimization.
- Contribute to strategic decisions on expansion, exploration drilling, or future feasibility studies.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, Geology, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in gold or base metal mining, with at least 5 years in a senior operational leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience in mine ramp-up, commissioning, and early-stage operations is essential.
- Strong familiarity with Indonesian mining regulations, permitting, and contractor management is preferred.
- Previous expatriate or regional experience in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Philippines, Laos, PNG) is a plus.
- Strong leadership, communication, and cross-cultural management skills.
- Fluent in English (Bahasa Indonesia is an advantage).
