Senior Engineer – Instrumentation (EPC), Dubai

Type of projects: Floaters and HVDC platforms for offshore wind.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Instrumentation Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering design and documentation, supporting all phases of EPC projects including conceptual, FEED, and detailed engineering. You will work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating closely with Lead Engineers, other disciplines, and project stakeholders. The role requires deep technical expertise in instrumentation and control systems, adherence to project specifications, international codes, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Engineering & Design

  • Perform conceptual, FEED, and detailed engineering and design in compliance with project specifications, international codes, and standards.
  • Prepare accurate design calculations, technical reports, data sheets, specifications, and material requisitions for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Review and analyze vendor documents, technical bids, and ensure compliance with project and client requirements.
  • Coordinate and integrate instrumentation and control system designs with other engineering disciplines (electrical, process, mechanical, piping).
  • Develop and review P&IDs, control philosophies, I/O lists, cause & effect diagrams, loop diagrams, and cable schedules.
  • Prepare and review instrument installation details and hook-up drawings.
  • Contribute to equipment and package instrumentation scope reviews, including DCS/PLC, ESD, F&G, and related systems.

Project & Coordination

  • Collaborate with Lead Engineers to ensure timely delivery of instrumentation engineering deliverables in line with the project schedule and budget.
  • Attend internal and client meetings to discuss technical matters and progress updates.
  • Provide technical input during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases, including responding to technical queries (TQs) and supporting site activities as needed.
  • Assist in the development of design standards, guidelines, and procedures for instrumentation.
  • Conduct site surveys and inspections to gather data for design and to ensure compliance during construction and commissioning.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure designs comply with HSE requirements, hazardous area classifications, and align with international standards such as ISA, IEC, NEC, BS, API, ASME, NFPA, and ISO.
  • Support the development of Control Narratives, Functional Specifications, and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) logic as required.
  • Support HAZOP, SIL, and Risk Assessments from an instrumentation perspective.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation, Control & Automation, or Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in EPC/Engineering Design, with exposure to FPSO, FSO, FPU, MOPU, or Offshore Renewables projects preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of control and instrumentation system design, including DCS, PLC, SCADA, ESD, F&G, protocols, and networks.
  • Proficient in engineering software/tools such as SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation), InstruCalc, AVEVA or similar.
  • Experience in FEED verification and detailed engineering for major EPC projects.
  • Familiar with project life cycle from concept to commissioning.
  • Good understanding of offshore and onshore instrumentation packages (control valves, flowmeters, transmitters, analyzers, etc.).
  • Solid knowledge of international engineering standards and codes (ISA, IEC, API, ISO).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
